Summer Blogging

17/12/16

Activity 2

One of the most popular activities in Madrid, the capital city of Spain, is called ‘Bullfighting.’ It has been a part of Spanish culture for centuries. In bullfighting people called ‘toreros and ‘matadors’ fight with a live bull. The toreros do most of the fighting and, ultimately, capture the bull and tie it up. Once it has been caught, the matador joins the fight and kills the bull. Although most toreros and matadors are men, there are some women who also compete in the sport.

Not everyone supports bullfighting in Spain. In fact, about 30% of the population want it to be banned (stopped) completely. What do you think? On your blog tell us whether or not you think that bullfighting should be banned in Spain. Please provide, at least, two reasons to support your decision.

1. I think bullfighting should stop is because someone might get hurt.
2. I think bullfighting should stop is because the bulls are gonna get hurt.

  3. Hi Samuel,

Thank you for sharing your opinion on bullfighting. I think you are 100% right too! As well as being highly risky for the matadors, the bulls cop an awful amount of cruel treatment both before and during the fight. Often the bulls are mistreated before the fight in order to give the matadors a big advantage!

Whenever we travel somewhere different, it's important to respect peoples beliefs and cultures. Although it is still okay to make up our own mind about things and form our own opinion which is what you have done here. Well done! Any kind of activity that encourages animal abuse for the sake of entertainment should definitely be banned.

    Great blogging Samuel!

    Cheers,
    Dan.
